General Motors of Canada December 2003 Sales

Oshawa, Ontario (Monday, January 05, 2004) - General Motors of Canada dealers and retailers delivered 34,236 vehicles in December, a decrease of 34.9 percent from the same period last year. Compared to December 2002, passenger car sales for the month were 16,260 units, down 37.4 per cent, and truck sales were 17,976 units, down 32.4 per cent.

Marc Comeau, GM of Canada's vice president of sales, service and marketing, said, "Canadian consumers are responding well to the recently-launched Chevrolet Aveo, Optra and Epica, with over 1000 sales in the month of December."

For the 2003 calendar year, GM of Canada delivered 455,751 units, a decrease of 12.5 per cent over 520,748 units delivered in the previous year. Calendar year passenger car sales were 228,315 units, a decrease of 15 per cent over the previous period and truck sales were 227,436 units, a decrease of 9.8 per cent over the previous year.

"GM of Canada had some significant wins in 2003, including a 25 per cent increase in sales of the Chevrolet Impala over 2002 and a 22 per cent increase in sales of the Saturn VUE. With 28 new vehicle launches in 2004 including the Chevrolet Malibu Maxx, Equinox and Cobalt and four new crossover sport vans, consumers looking for quality, innovation and 'must have' products will have more choice than ever." said Comeau.
