General Motors of Canada December 2004 Sales
Oshawa, Ontario (Tuesday, January 04, 2005) - General Motors of Canada dealers and retailers delivered 35,855 vehicles in December, an increase of 4.7 percent from the same period last year. Compared to December 2004, passenger car sales for the month were 17,034 units, up 4.8 per cent, and truck sales were 18,821 units, up 4.7 per cent.
Marc Comeau, GM of Canada's vice president of sales, service and marketing, said, "General Motors Canada finished the year with strong car and truck sales. Sales of Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Crew Cabs more than doubled this month and the small utility truck segment including the Chevrolet Equinox and the Saturn Vue increased by 56.6% compared to December 2003."
For the 2004 calendar year, GM of Canada delivered 444,875 units, a decrease of 2.4 per cent over 455,751 units delivered in the previous year. Calendar year passenger car sales were 222,816 units, a decrease of 2.4 per cent over the previous period and truck sales were 222,059 units, a decrease of 2.4 per cent over the previous year.
"GM of Canada had some significant wins in 2004, including a 19.6 per cent increase in sales of the small cars with the new Chevrolet Aveo, Pontiac Wave, Chevrolet Optra, Chevrolet Cobalt, Pontiac Pursuit, Pontiac Vibe and Saturn Ion. Canadian consumers recognize the tremendous value in these great new vehicles. By leveraging our global capabilities and sticking to our game plan for growth throughout the world, we will launch 18 new or significantly changed vehicles in 2005", said Comeau.
